Vocational Qualification in Weaving
There is a great deal of demand for hand-woven fabrics. Many fashion designers opt for hand-made materials due to the large range and the limited yardages. Abroad, this type of fabric is expensive. Until quite recently, there was no vocational training available in the Netherlands for those wanting to become professional weavers. De Ambachtelijke Weverij in Amsterdam has developed a vocational weaving training of 2 years (4 semesters).
Upon completing our vocational training, you will have reached the level of a professional weaver.
On traditional looms, you will be practising the four principles of weaving. From plain table looms in the first semester to a computer-controlled dobby hand loom in the fourth semester. During the remaining semesters, we will be working on – among others – paardjes, countermarch, damask and Dobby looms (with or without shuttles or regulators).
